Dr. Caroline Bell recognized an unmet need in the rapidly growing field of Safety Pharmacology so she founded her first company SSPCC, Inc. in 2001. Dr. Bell saw that many pharmaceutical/biotechnology companies found themselves behind schedule, overworked, understaffed, under-trained and sometimes unable to meet the requirements of the newly implemented Safety Pharmacology ICH S7A and ICH S7B. Even with the use of the growing numbers of CROs, pharmaceutical/biotechnology organizations found that their contract management as well as the need to oversee studies placed at CROs required additional resource and expertise.

In the course of eight successful years specializing in strategic Safety Pharmacology for a variety of clients, SSPCC was frequently approached for assistance not only with Safety Pharmacology but also with other disciplines engaged in Drug Development. Over time these requests resulted in a new opportunity- to create a company with a broad range of services and a larger network of stellar Experts in the Field and Specialty Vendors (especially those with unique equipment or software capabilities.

While at Bath University in the UK, Dr. Bell was trained in Classical Pharmacology – including organ baths and smoke drum recordings. She obtained her PhD at New York Medical College also in Pharmacology and did her post-doctoral work at Cornell University Medical College in the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology. Dr. Bell has over 30 years of experience as a Pharmacologist, Preclinical Safety Assessment Scientist/Manager/Director in the academic and global pharmaceutical arenas. She was a Founding Member of the Safety Pharmacology Society (SPS) and served for 7 years on the SPS Board of Directors.
